Originally from Cali, Colombia, Carlos Fernandez is a pianist and educator with a deep commitment to performance, pedagogy, and musical scholarship. After immigrating to Calgary, Canada, he began his formal piano studies with Roman Hernandez and Ingrid Mosker, later continuing his training with Professor Marilyn Engle at the University of Calgary. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with Distinction in 2021 and went on to complete his Master of Music in Piano Performance at the University of Toronto under the guidance of Professor Lydia Wong.
Carlos has performed and studied internationally, including at the Coimbra World Piano Meeting and the Sardoal International Piano Meeting in Portugal, where he took part in performances, competitions, and masterclasses with distinguished artists and pedagogues. In addition to solo piano, Carlos has a strong interest in collaborative music and has worked with instrumentalists and singers in classical, jazz, and tango settings.
Carlos brings nearly a decade of experience working with students across a wide range of ages and levels, from beginners to advanced pianists preparing for exams, festivals, competitions, and university auditions. His teaching also extends to theory and music history, reflecting his broad musical training and strong musicological background.

Carlos's teaching approach emphasizes healthy technique, musical understanding, and thoughtful practice. He believes that students develop best when technical skills are connected to musical expression, historical context, and a clear understanding of the music they study.
